Introducing the Piezowave

September 8, 2022 1:26 pm Published by admin Comments Off on Introducing the Piezowave

The piezowave is very effective at treating bone, joint and tendon injuries even if chronic like arthritis. This modality uses acoustic sound waves to mechanically stimulate deep tissues in a focused and precise manner. The machine looks like an ultrasound machine and even uses ultrasound gel. The sensation is like a deep massage when an injured area is treated. Treatment usually takes around 15 minutes and is performed weekly for three weeks before pain level is reassessed.

Meet Buddy, one of our piezowave patients!

Buddy came in for an appointment because his left forelimb was giving out on walks thus he could only walk two blocks. Upon examination, we determined that he was painful in his neck likely due to a slipped disc and this had resulted in weakness in his left forelimb and decrease in sensation of his left rear paw. We treated him weekly for three weeks with the piezowave and placed him in a harness instead of a traditional collar. Upon reexamination, his pain and limited mobility was resolved and the sensation was now normal in his left rear paw once the slipped disc had been treated! He is now excited to go for his walks and is able to walk for a longer distance again! He still comes in for monthly piezowave treatments for tune ups. The last treatment he was jumping up and down on the benches in the lobby!

Give us a call to schedule an initial consultation with Dr. Williams to assess whether this amazing treatment is right for your pet.

Arthritis pain relief for cats now available

February 17, 2022 11:26 am Published by admin Comments Off on Arthritis pain relief for cats now available

Solensia controls arthritis pain in cats, which can lead to an easier time moving. Solensia works like your cat’s naturally made antibodies to reduce pain signals. It’s a type of medicine called a biologic (a protein, not a chemical) that targets a root cause of your cat’s arthritis pain. Improvement in symptoms was seen in 77% of cat owners when their cats were treated monthly with Solensia in a 3-month study.

Raw Diets Now Available

January 29, 2021 11:27 am Published by admin Comments Off on Raw Diets Now Available

Del Ray Animal Hospital is happy to offer balanced raw diets for cats and dogs.  Dr. Williams feeds her pets frozen commercial raw diets.  She would often refer to Pet Sage for owners to buy raw diet.  Once this pet store closed due to COVID, we decided to start carrying some raw food as it is often difficult to buy online.

We will carry Vital Cat turkey and chicken patties for cats.  Consult the website catinfo.org www.catinfo.org for transitioning cats from dry to canned food as many of the same tips apply.

For dogs and cats, we will sell Steve’s nuggets in chicken and turkey.  For more information consult stevesrealfood.com for transitioning tips as well as a feeding guide.

A Note From Dr. Marsico

September 9, 2016 9:57 am Published by delrayeditor Comments Off on A Note From Dr. Marsico

It is with both sadness and excitement that I am writing this letter to let you know that, after 26 years, I will be leaving Del Ray Animal Hospital to pursue the next chapter in my life. My husband Gene and I will be moving to Calvert County Maryland to be closer to our growing family (expecting grandchild number four in November!) and to live a more quiet and low-key lifestyle outside of the hustle and bustle of the beltway. This is a deeply emotional decision for me as I have spent my entire adult life here in Alexandria with my Del Ray Animal Hospital family. My relationships with my coworkers, clients and of course my patients have been an integral part of my growth and development as a veterinarian. I will miss all of you and your furry family members more than you can imagine.

When I joined the practice under the mentorship of Dr. Farrell in 1992, we were a small practice nestled among the homes of a “ transitional” neighborhood. I have seen the practice and the neighborhood grow to become a beautiful part of an amazing community , and I feel lucky to have been a part of it. I am grateful for all of you and am confident that I am leaving you in very capable hands. My last day will be August 16th and a casual happy hour style farewell celebration will be announced. I hope to see you there!
